چکیده

Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) concentrations in whole blood obtained by finger prick or by venipuncture have been shown to be equivalent when measured by the 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine procedure. Whole blood obtained by eithertechnique is stable for at least 6 h at 25#{176}C, and for as long as 28 days when stabilized with trichloroacetic acid and stored at 4#{176}C. Storage of whole blood at -70#{176}C is accompanied by an initial loss (10-20%) of vitamin C; however, additional losses of vitamin C do not occur beyond the third day of storage.

Determination of Vitamin C in Small Volumes of Blood by HPLC/EC

A sensitive procedure for determining total vitamin C (ascorbic acid + dehydrate ascorbic Acid) in a blood drop from a finger prick, before and after the adminis- tration of a vitamin C tablet is described. Analysis was carried out by high per- formance liquid  chromatography with  electrochemical detection (HPLC/EC). Measurements were taken one hour, two hours and six hours after the adm...

Comparison of Different Blood Collection, Sample Matrix, and Immunoassay Methods in a Prenatal Screening Setting

We compared how measurements of pregnancy-associated plasma protein A (PAPP-A) and the free beta subunit of human chorionic gonadotropin (fβ-hCG) in maternal blood are influenced by different methods for blood collection, sample matrix, and immunoassay platform. Serum and dried blood spots (DBS) were obtained by venipuncture and by finger prick of 19 pregnant women. PAPP-A and fβ-hCG from serum...

Liposomal and Non-Liposomal Formulations of Vitamin C: Comparison of the Antihypertensive and Vascular Modifying Activity in Renovascular Hypertensive Rats

Background: Liposomes constitute a promising drug delivery vehicle, and are believed to improve drugs’ effectiveness. This study was aimed to compare antihypertensive and vascular modifying activities of liposomal and non-liposomal forms of ascorbic acid. Methods: Forty-nine male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into seven groups (n=7): A sham vehicle-receiving (Sham-veh), hypert...

Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)-Infected Patients Accept Finger Stick Blood Collection for Point-Of-Care CD4 Testing

INTRODUCTION HIV-infected patients require antiretroviral treatment for life. To improve access to care, CD4 enumeration and viral load tests have been redesigned to be used as point-of-care techniques using finger-stick blood. Accurate CD4 counting in capillary blood requires a free flowing blood drop that is achieved by blade incision. The aim of this study was to assess the attitude of the p...
